I Was Alive When I Woke Up This Morning: CHAPTER 11

Chapter 11

As the light outside told me that it was already time to get out of bed—I did and stretched. I didn’t sleep but I was lying in bed ever since…I lay on it.

I glanced on the living room wall clock as I walked to the kitchen to cook—11:28 a.m.—brunch for Jonathan. I think I have to somehow prepare his food special; I have to make up to what happened last night.

Ah~ last night. It was actually fun. I never really thought I’d be able to do it, I actually still feel guilty—, but it was relieving...in a way.

Egg, bacon, and toast…this’ll do.

“Good Morning!” I greeted as I heard Jonathan entering the kitchen. “How was your sleep?” Egg, Bacon and Toast—voila! I walked to him and saw his grumpy expression. Smiling, I placed his food in-front of him; he mumbled a ‘thanks’ as I walked to the fridge. “Apple, Orange, or Pineapple?”

“Apple” he replied, mouth full.

I poured apple juice into two glasses then sat in-front of him. “Hungry much?”

He grimaced then gulped his juice. “Goodness Tiffany, I feel like I have a hang-over and at the same time jet-lagged.”

“Sorry?” I apologized. Nah~ not really.

He shook his head then continued eating, “Now I know I shouldn’t mess with you that much—it might cause my death.”

“HAHA. I’m really sorry. It’s just that, I was just kinda, well, shocked.” I frowned, “I’m not used to jokes like that, so yea. I’m sorry.”

“You sound really sincere.”

“I know right? But really, sorry. I won’t do that again.”

He shrugged, “Where exactly did you hit me, anyway? It was so fast I didn’t notice it.”

“Ah, left part of your head? Gosh! I thought I killed you.”

“I thought you killed me too.” He bit his toast, chewed, swallow, then looked at me, “And you hit me with?”

“My fist.”

He gave me a hard look then continued eating, “Amazing.” He said, smiling. “I thought that was some wood or something hard. Never thought you’d pack a punch.”

I stared at him, dumb-founded.

“Been in a gang or something?”

Now I'm death-glaring him, “Do I look like someone who’ll join some gang or whatever?”

Sighing, he shrugged. “Dunno. You might not look like it, but you have a very strong punch. You had me knocked out for almost 9 hours. ”

“Haven’t thought that I might have had karate or any martial arts training?”

“Well, have you?”

“Uh, no. But that could’ve been a possibility, and it’s more reasonable than asking me if I have been in a Mafia or something.”

He chuckled, I’m irritated, but why is that cute?

“HAHA I don’t know, sorry. That was what, well, entered my mind when I thought of your punch.” He sighed, “I’ll make sure that I won’t mess with you like that next time.”

We sat in awkward silence for a couple minutes—I was staring at the table holding my glass while he was still eating. When I heard him close his utensils, I looked up to see him standing.

“Will you be okay here?” he asked.

“Huh?”

“I’m leaving.”

“LEAVING? What? Why? When? Where to?”

He smiled, “Woah. One question at a time, but well; I’m leaving today, but I won’t be long. I just remembered my nephew’s birthday and I promised her that I would come.”

“OH.” I frowned, why am I frowning? “How many days will you be gone?”

“Just overnight. Don’t worry,” smile, “I won’t be out long so that you wouldn’t be missing me too much.”

“Wha…?” I felt my cheeks blush as he smiled cheekily then ran to his room. If I expected that, I could’ve punched him, again, but well…I can’t. He has this effect on me……

I don’t know how long I was sitting there; but when Jonathan appeared in my vision, he was all ready.

“Actually, my cousin’s birthday is tomorrow.”

I stared at him…what did he say? He shrugged, “I just wanted to travel earlier so that I won’t be late. Here’s not near anywhere, you know.”

Why’s he telling me that? “Ah, yea. Sure.” Wait, I thought it was his nephew’s, uh niece’s, birthday?

“Wait, who’s birthday is it…really? Your cousin, nephew, or niece?”

“My aunt. So yea, take care here and yea…I’m going. Bye!”

“I…”

He walked fast outside and rode his car; I followed him and watched as he started the car. He waved at me, “Lock the doors and be alert—we can’t always be sure of our safety.”

I just nodded, then he pulled out of the driveway and left. Just like that.

Hmmmm. What fun things could I do here…alone?

***

Finished with all the video games available in the house and bored with the book that I picked from his many book collections—I’m here walking around outside. I know that house will be safe for a few hours.

I haven’t explored the forest behind Jonathan’s house and I’m glad I did now. It’s such a wonderful and quiet place, I wouldn’t mind staying here for the rest of the night. Looking around, I think Jonathan somewhat polished the place. The walk way was clean and no grass was in the way. There are also lights on some of the tress—I guess he’s pretty much of a nature lover too. Seeing that the forest was clean, I guess he treated this as his garden. It wasn’t that the whole forest was polished; he’d be crazy if he did that. But the part that was close to his house was what was clean, maybe this is where he sometimes spends time to think.

Thinking of him, I wonder who Jonathan really is. As far as I know, he’s such a moody and unpredictable person. He sleeps 12hours straight no matter what time he sleeps, and he likes to eat Oreos. At first I thought he was the serious type, but the longer I stay with him…the dorkier he gets. He isn’t dumb but he isn’t very smart also, just…smart. He’s a clean and organized person who takes 3 baths and 6 meals a day. He’s…well, he’s just that. I don’t know anymore. Aside from that and his engagement, I don’t know him that much. I’ve been living with him for almost a month now, I’m just not sure if I don’t know him that much because I don’t take the effort to do so, or he tries to hide who he really is.

Ahhh~ why am I thinking this? I should explore this forest and appreciate it.

Jonathan James Lee…who are you, really? And why did I have interest to know you all of a sudden?

Ever since I saw him after that blur went away, he charmed me with his smile. I didn’t wanna admit it, but though I’ve been with him for almost a month now, his charming features never cease to amaze me. Even when he’s teasing me and I want to punch the soul out of him, whenever I saw his face—my anger crumbles down. I sound pathetic but that’s his effect on me. Woah~ gosh, now I know his effect on me! Oh goodness I’m going crazy and….it’s dark already. Gosh, I spent my walking time thinking of him.

The walk back to house was uncomfortable, and I don’t know why. But seeing the house was lighted, I guess the uncomfortable feeling made sense—I know I didn’t leave the lights on when I left. And, why is there music? Moving closer to the house, I picked up a wooden stick from the ground and walked cautiously to the house.

Santa Clause is coming to town…

What the…? A burglar is singing a Christmas song? Well, we’ll see what gifts he will receive when I get inside the house holding this stick.
