It's Different this Time

It was 5 o'clock in the morning when Jiwon woke up to the sound of her alarm clock. She covered her head with her pillow for her to not hear the irritating buzz of the alarm clock. But realizing that it was useless, she reached out to her bedside table and pressed the alarm shut.

She stayed still on the bed for a good 5 minutes before deciding to stand up and get ready to face the day ahead of her.

It was the day of her best friend’s wedding and Jiwon was still battling with herself if she should attend or not.

"You'd come, right? ...Right?" Hyunjin was already pouting and begging his best friend to come to his wedding.

At that moment, Jiwon wanted to slap the soul out of Hyunjin's body. ‘Me, come to his wedding? Did he want to see me die in there?!’ ...Probably not. He didn't know that Jiwon had that special feelings for him ever since, well, she can't remember when it started. All she knows was she's in love with her best friend—but never had a chance to tell him. And now, it was too late.

"Ya! Ya Jiwonnie!" Hyunjin was waving a hand in-front of her eyes when she realized that she had been spacing out.

"Oh! Uhm, what?" Jiwon lamely tried to act as if she hadn't heard what Hyunjin was saying.

Hyunjin shook his head and handed Jiwon a handful of chips. They were at Jiwon's living room, watching movies and eating junk foods, just like they usually do during Friday nights. But not as often as before; before Hyunjin had himself a girlfriend.

"You'll come to my wedding, right? You will. You have to" Jiwon took it and stuffed her mouth with it, doing it on purpose. She looked at Hyunjin and saw his pleading face. How could she say no to that? But she was thinking of her heart. If she goes to that wedding, she'll be forever bitter and hurt. But, this is her best friend’s wedding day--his most important day. She thought and thought of herself.

"But I--" She began but she cut herself, she hadn't really thought of an excuse. This is so lame.

"…but you?" Hyunjin insisted. He wanted his best friend to come to his wedding no matter what happens, this is the most important event of his life and one of his most important people must be there.

"But, I... I have a flight on that date" Jiwon said quietly, knowing that her excuse was lame.

"But Jiwon" Hyunjin whined, pouting, "I already told you the date of the wedding a few months ago. I'm just reminding you now. But..."

He frowned and slid lower to the couch, acting like a child who doesn't want to go to school.

Jiwon looked at Hyunjin and felt guilty. She promised him that she'll come to his wedding. But as days passed by, Jiwon was feeling reality was already sinking in to her; she wasn't who Hyunjin was going to marry.

"I'm sorry" she said quietly, "I...I know I promised you that I'd come, but..." she paused, not really sure what to lie.

Hyunjin looked at her, waiting. She sighed and continued, 'I'm sorry' she thought. "The one that my boss assigned for that job got sick and had to resign, and I was the only one who's available. So, the job was given to me." When she saw Hyunjin frowned even more, Jiwon thought of something to lessen his frowning. "B-but, I tried to tell him that I wasn't available. But, we had no choice. This is an opportunity of the century." She was shocked at how she was able to think of that—very lame and stupid—lie in a matter of seconds.

After a couple of minutes of awkward silence, Hyunjin slowly nodded and smiled. "Okay" he said, "I know how your job means to you. I'll just send you a copy of the wedding video"

Jiwon smiled back and nodded.

Jiwon went to the hotel where Hyunjin and his future wife were getting ready for the wedding. Though Hyunjin was already getting married, Jiwon has never ever seen his fiancée--not even once. At first she thought that Hyunjin was just joking. But now, she just wanted to know what she looks like. She already asked him numerous times why his girlfriend wouldn't show herself, but he just keeps saying "soon".

When she arrive in-front of Hyunjin's room, she took a deep breath and knocked on the door. "Come in" she heard Hyunjin's voice and opened the door. When she entered the room, she was shocked to find no one with Hyunjin; just him and a wedding dress on the bed.

"Hyunjin, why are you alone?" Jiwon asked as he noticed Hyunjin fixing himself in-front of the mirror. "And why is your girlfriend's wedding dress here? Isn't she finished taking a bath?"

Jiwon tried to joke but blushed when Hyunjin just smiled at her. "Anyway, where's everybody?"

Hyunjin smiled and walked over to Jiwon. "I told them to give me a moment"

"Oh~ I'm sorry, I...I should--"

"No!" Hyunjin held Jiwon's wrist just as she was just about to step out of the room and give Hyunjin his alone time.

"Why?"

Hyunjin held her left hand while his other hand went to his pocket to get a small box.

"Hyunjin?"

He slowly began to bend on one knee then he looked up to Jiwon.

He took a breath and slowly exhaled it as he opened the small box to reveal a ring, "Choi Jiwon, will you marry me?" he said with a happy smile at the same time, worrying what Jiwon will reply. He planned this wedding 10 months ago, and he would literally die if Jiwon would decline. He didn't know when it started, but he knows that he'd been in love with Jiwon ever since forever. He knows that Jiwon feels the same for him; he once naughtily sneaked to her room and read a portion of her diary. He didn't really mean to do that, but he was curious of what Jiwon was feeling for him.

Jiwon stared blankly at Hyunjin, not believing what was happening. This is his wedding day, he has a girlfriend. Why is he offering her marriage now?

"Hyunjin, 괜찮아?" she asked, not sure what to say.

He sighed and asked again, "Will you marry me?"

"But...But Hyunjin, your fiancée--"

He smiled and stood up, "I take that as a yes" he said.

"I...what?"

Hyunjin slid the ring in Jiwon's ring finger.

"But Hyunjin..."

"You're my girlfriend, you just didn't know. And now... now you're my fiancée" he explained

"But, I don't understand. Today... You--"

"I planned this wedding for the two of us. It's okay with you, right?"

Jiwon didn't know what to say anymore. She just nodded and hugged Hyunjin, "Babo" she smiled then hit him in the head. Hyunjin frowned, and it made Jiwon laugh. This is all that she wanted from the beginning: to marry Park Hyunjin.

"I love you" Hyunjin said

"I love you too" Jiwon replied as Hyunjin broke the hug to kiss Jiwon lightly. Then he remembered something. He inched from Jiwon and frowned at her.

"What?" Jiwon asked.

"I thought you have a flight today?" Hyunjin wondered.

"I..." he laughed when Jiwon cut herself off, not sure how to explain.

"I know you were lying" he said, "Your boss is invited, by the way".

"But...what if I didn't come? What will happen to all that you've prepared?"

Hyunjin smiled, "I don't know. I haven’t thought about that, to be honest. I knew you'd come, no matter what. You love me, and even though I was going to get married to someone else, you'd still come. Right?"

Jiwon pouted and hit him lightly on the chest, "바보" she said again. Hyunjin laughed and took his cell phone to call their friends to help them prepare for the wedding.

A/N: gaaahhh~ I don't know where did this come from. It's so lame. Hmmmm. I'm a bit depressed right now, but still I came up with a happy ending… I'm going crazy. Anyway, I love this. ^^
